Membership Benefits

Access to leading-edge research and clinical trials.

We aggressively promote the awareness and funding of promising research related to Down syndrome, particularly in the areas of cognition, basic science, therapeutics, and behavioral science. A scientific advisory panel comprised of geneticists, researchers, clinicians, and other medical specialists has been convened to review and recommend research programs for funding consideration. We also work with area research institutions to increase their commitment to Down syndrome research, and to provide local opportunities for our members to access quality clinical trials. CODSS also serves as a seed grant organization that funds and encourages new researchers and investigators to enter the field of Down syndrome research.

Advocacy and Legislation

Competition for government resources is greater than ever. With the rapid rise in influence of other special needs interest groups at the state and federal levels, a professional legislative lobbyist has been engaged to represent member interests before government bodies and to aggressively engage social and economic policies that impact individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Health Education and Wellness

Individuals with Down syndrome are vulnerable to a variety of illnesses, including thyroid disease, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, childhood leukemia, hearing loss, and Alzheimer’s disease. To give members confidence in their ability to manage these conditions and maintain control of their lives, we provide programs that educate families on current healthcare guidelines, health maintenance needs, the use of medications, nutrition and the evaluation of new treatments.

Social and Networking Opportunities

CODSS is dedicated to bringing its members together and helping them forge lasting relationships. Events we host throughout the year will give members an opportunity to renew friendships, lend support, share experiences, exchange ideas, or meet new contacts. Online tools enable members build a personal network of support.
